Mom's Bread Pudding Recipe

4 slices white bread
1/2 c. raisins
4 eggs
3/4 c. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
4 c. evaporated milk
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. nutmeg
Lemon sauce:
1/4 c. sugar
1 lemon
1/2 tsp. flour
1/2 c. water

Butter bread and toast under broiler. Cube and spread over 2 qt. baking dish. Sprinkle raisins over bread. Beat eggs, add sugar, salt, milk, vanilla and nutmeg. Blend well and pour over bread. Sprinkle with additional nutmeg. Set in a dish of cold water. Bake at 375 for 30 to 35 minutes (or longer) until knife comes out clean. Lemon sauce: Mix flour, sugar, water and juice from lemon and grated lemon rind and bring to boil for 2 to 3 min. or until thickened.
