3/4 c.shortening, not butter
3/4 c. white sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten(reserve small amt. to brush tops before cooking)
3 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 c. molasses
1/8 c. water
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugars. Add eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and add to first mixture. Add liquids, raisins, and nuts. Spread in strips on greased cookie sheet and brush with beaten egg. Bake in 350º oven for 15 min. or until tops are golden brown. Cut strips to size when removed from oven. Cool for about 10 min. and store in tightly covered tin.
