1/2 Cup Shortening
1/2 Cup Butter
1 Cup Sifted Confectioners Sugar
1 Egg
1 1/2 Tsp. Almond Extract
1 Tsp. Vanilla
2 1/2 Cups Flour
1 Tsp. Salt
1/2 Tsp. Red Food Coloring
1/2 Cup Crushed Peppermint Candies
1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º.
Mix shortening and butter with sugar, egg and flavorings thoroughly. Mix the flour and salt into the shortening mixture. Divide dough in half and blend food coloring into one half. Roll a 4-inch strip of each color dough. Twist doughs together and shape into candy canes. Bake for 9 minutes. While still warm sprinkle with the peppermint candy which has been mixed with the sugar.
