4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cake yeast
1 1/2 cup shortening

FILLING:
3 egg whites
1 cup sugar
1/4 pound pecans, chopped

Sift together flour and salt. Crumble yeast over flour mixture. Cut in shortening as for pie dough. Mix together three egg yolks, beaten, 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour cream and ,1 teaspoon vanilla. Add to dough mixture. Place in refrigerator while making filling.

Divide dough into 8 parts. Roll out each part in sugar. Spread with meringue filling and sprinkle with nuts. Cut in 8 wedges and roll each wedge, starting at wide end. Place on cookie sheet. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 15-18 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

FILLING:
Beat three egg whites until stiff. Add one cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 pound chopped pecans. Mix ingredients.
