1/2 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp margarine
2 tsp cinnamon
2 Tbsp flour

3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix brown sugar, margarine, cinnamon and flour together and set aside.

Mix rest of ingredients for batter. Pour half of batter into greased 8 inch square pan. Sprinkle half of first mixture over batter. Pour rest of batter in pan and sprinkle rest of first mixture on top.

Bake in 350º oven for 30 minutes.

I won a purple ribbon at the Gage County Fair in 1974 using this recipe. At the State Fair, this same recipe received a red ribbon. When I replace the shortening with real butter, it seems to turn out better.
