2 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. flour
1 tsp. cloves
1 c. nuts
4 c. chopped apples
1 tsp. soda, stirred in milk
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
Icing for Fresh Apple Cake
1 1/2 c, sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
3 Tbsp. flour
2 Tbsp. Crisco
4 Tbsp. orange juice
1 Tbsp. Karo white syrup

Mix all dry ingredients, then mix Crisco, sugar and eggs in a separate bowl. Pour in dry ingredients and milk, a little at a time. Mix in apples and nuts. Bake at 325º for1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Icing for Fresh Apple Cake
See ingredients above. Heat slowly; bring to a boil for one minute. Remove from heat and beat until creamy. Spread on cooled cake.
