2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup shortening or lard
6 to 7 T cold water

4 Granny Smith apple, peeling and cored
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup caramel topping
2 T butter
1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup water

Crust:
Stir together flour and salt. Cut in shortening with a pastry cutter till pieces are the size of small peas. sprinkle 1 T of the water over part of mixture; gently toss with a fork. Push to side of bowl. Repeat till all is moistened.

Prepare pie crust and divide for each apple. Roll to diameter that will cover apple. Wrap apple in crust with small opening in top to pour in some of the caramel. Put in baking dish and brush with beaten egg. Stir caramel, butter, brown sugar, and water in sauce pan and bring to boil.. Pour over apples. Bake 350º for 45 - 50 minutes.
