3 cups white sugar
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
2 tsp soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 C buttermilk
2 Cups mashed bananas
1 C chopped walnuts
4 Cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in order given. Bake at 350º for one hour. This recipe makes 2 large loaves.
I usually bake the bread for a bit over an hour.
Flour and grease bread pans and line the bottom of the pans with wax paper. Draw the pattern of the bottom of the bread pan on the wax paper and cut out and place in bottom of pan.

The Parrill family likes to add chocolate chips to banana bread. I usually make one loaf with chocolate chips and one loaf without.
