1 c. Dates, chopped
1 c. Water, boiling
2/3 c. Butter or Margarine
1 c. Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
1 3/4 c. Flour
2 T. Baking Cocoa
1 tsp. Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 c. Chocolate Chips
1 c. Walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates and water and let stand until cool. Cream butter or margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs. Beat well. Combine flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Add alternately with the date mixture, beating well after each addition. Spread in a 9 x 13-inch greased cake pan. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and nuts over top. Bake at 350º for 40 minutes.

Best when served with a spoonful of whipped cream or cool whip on top! A good dessert to have on hand in the refrigerator for those unexpected guests.
