3 acorn squash
2 or 3 fresh tart apples
3 Tbsp unsalted butter
6 Tbsp brown sugar
nutmeg to taste

Directions:
Cut the squash in half and remove the seeds. Place them, cut-side down, in a shallow baking dish. Add 1/2 cup of boiling water and cover. Bake in a 350º oven for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and uncover. Turn the squash cut side up and season with salt and pepper. Peel and core the apples, and cut them into wedges. Fill the squash cavities with apples and dot generously with butter. Sprinkle each squash with 1 Tbsp of the brown sugar, and a pinch of nutmeg.
Pour 1/2 cup of boiling water into the pan and bake, uncovered, at 350º for 30 minutes.
