1 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cocoa
1/4 c. red coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vinegar
1 c milk
5 T flour
2 sticks butter
1 c sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs and beat. Mix cocoa and coloring in cup and add. Add salt. Put vanilla in buttermilk. Add this alternately with flour. Mix vinegar and soda in cup and add.
Bake at 350 for 40 minutes in 9 X 13" greased and floured pan.
In heavy pot, mix 1 c. milk a little at a time into 5 tbsp. flour. Cook until really thick. Put in refrigerator and let cool. In large bowl add 2 sticks butter, 1 c. sugar and 1 tsp. vanilla and mix with mixer. Add cooled mixture and spread over cooled cake.
