1/4 tsp. salt
1 lb. oleo
Topping:
1 lb. sugar (2c.)
1 1/2 cups of vanilla wafer crumbs
6 eggs
1/3 c. ground pecans
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. sugar
3 c. SIFTED flour
1/2 c. melted butter
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Grease well a 16x5 in. loaf pan or 9 in. tube pan. Mix topping and press into bottom and sides (just up a little) of pan. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and slowly add to mixture. Mix till smooth. Transfer to pan and bake @ 350º for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, loosen with spatula and invert to cool.

Grandma always had this pound cake for coffee or whatever and when I told her we had lots of cakey type recipes and I may not get them all in she said "Well this is a good cake , you'll want this one":)
