3 1/3 cups flour
1/2 cup butter
2 1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup light Karo syrup
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/8 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 to 1/4 tsp oil of anise
1/3 cup water minus a little

Mix and make into very slender rolls. Cut small pices.Place on cookie sheet and bake at 350º. Don't leave kitchen when they are baking. When you smell anise oil, they are about ready to come out. Don't overbake.
