1 1/2 pounds shank beef, cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes
2 cloves crushed garlic
4 Tablespoons vegetable oil
4 Tablespoons soy sauce
3 Tablespoons plus 1 cup water
4 Carrots, peeled and cut into chunks
4 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks.
1 onion, quartered

Directions:

Heat oil in a heavy frying pan or Dutch Oven. Brown garlic in oil. Mix in soy sauce, and add cubed beef and brown. Reduce heat and add water. Simmer over low heat for 1 hour, adding more water if necessary. Add carrots, onion, and potatoes and 1 cup water. Cover and simmer for 1/2 hour more.
