Ingredients: 4 squares Baker's unsweetened chocolate 1/2 c butter 4 eggs 2 c sugar 1 c sifted flour 1 tsp vanilla 1 c broken walnuts

Directions: |
Directions:Melt chocolate and butter together over hot water. Cool slightly. Beat eggs until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating thoroughly after each addition. Blend in chocolate mixture. Then stir in flour. Add vanilla and nuts. Spread in greased 9" square pan. Bake in moderate oven 325ºF about 40 minutes. Cool in pan. Cut into squares or bars.
Double Chocolate Brownies: Make as directed and spread with half recipe of Fluffy Chocolate Frosting. (See Mahogany Chocolate Cake)
Coconut Brownies: Make as directed substituting 3/4 c flake coconut for the nuts.
Nut-Topped Brownies: Make as directed but omit nuts from batter. Pour into pan as directed and sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Bake as directed. Then drizzle with 1 square Baker's unsweetened chocolate and 1 tsp butter, melted.
Peppermint Brownies Make as directed. Top with 15-20 chocolate peppermint patties. Return to oven about 3 minutes to soften patties. Spread over top.
