2 gallons sliced cucumbers
2 cups pickling salt
1 1/2 gallons water
6 cups apple vinegar
8 cups sugar
1 teaspoon celery seed
3 Tablespoons pickling spice
1 Tablespoons tumeric

Directions:
Directions:
Place cucumbers in a large non-metal bowl. Mix pickling salt and 1 gallon boiling water. Pour over cucumbers. Refrigerate for 24 hours. Drain and rinse.

Combine vinegar, sugar, celery seed, pickling spice and tumeric. Bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and simmer 30 minutes. Place cucumbers in sterile jars. Pour vinegar mixture over cucumbers and seal. Store in the refrigerator.

The original recipe called for 5 Tablespoons of Alum in the original 24 hour soak. Alum is Potassium-Aluminum and is no longer utilized in pickling due to its toxicity.
