Directions:
Combine all ingredients except vanilla. Cook slowly, stirring constantly until 248º or when it's at the firm ball stage. Remove from heat, add vanilla. Pour in to a greased 8x8 pan. Cool. Makes 1 1/2 pounds of candy. Cut and wrap individual pieces in waxed paper.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
When I made these at Christmas 2008, I ran to the grocery store and left Jason in charge of the stirring (not thinking I could be gone long enough that they would get to the firm ball stage). He followed the directions perfectly but by the time I get home the caramel was to the VERY firm stage. I went ahead with the directions and they ended up more like Werther's hard caramel candies. We dipped them in chocolate and ended up really liking them!!! The only down side was that they were really hard to cut.
