8-10 large cucumbers, peeled and sliced
2 cups lime
1 cup white vinegar
1 one ounce bottle red food coloring
1 tablespoon alum
2 cups white vinegar
10 cups sugar
14 ounce package red hot candies
8 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

Mix lime with 8 1/2 quarts water. Add cucumbers and allow to soak overnight. Drain and wash well. Soak in clear water for 3 hours. Drain and cover with water and 1 cup vinegar, food coloring, and alum. Boil for 1 hour, drain. Make the syrup: 2 cups vinegar, 10 cups sugar, 2 cups water, red hot candies, cinnamon sticks, and 2 teaspoon salt. Bring to boil. Pour syrup over cucumbers. Bring up to boil and boil for 1 minute. Cover and let sit overnight. REPEAT the following steps for two days: Bring to boil for 1 minute, cover and let sit overnight. On the third day, pack into sterilized canning jars and seal.
