3 c. (or three 6 oz. pkg.) semisweet or milk chocolate bits
1 can condensed milk
dash of salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c chopped nuts, optional
(To make peppermint fudge, replace nuts with 1/2 to 1 c. crushed peppermint candy.)

Directions:
Melt chocolate in double boiler, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread mixture evenly into wax paper lined 8 x 8" pan. Chill 2 hrs. or until firm. Turn fudge onto cutting board. Peel off paper and cut into squares. Tightly cover any leftovers. Yields about 1 3/4 lbs.
