2 lbs. English walnuts
2 lbs. dates
1 c. sugar
1 c. flour
4 eggs, separated
2 tsp. baking powder
1 T. vanilla
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Beat sugar and egg yolks, add vanilla and fruit and nuts mixed with dry ingredients. Fold in egg whites. Bake in a loaf pan at 325º for 1 hr.

Ann gave me this recipe. I still have the original handwritten recipe with this note on the back: "Dorothy, I guess Norb forgot to stop for this, I'm holding the baby so excuse writing. If you and Edith want to come here and bake this cake you are welcome or aren't you baking it this year. Did you get much shopping done yesterday? Will be seeing you. Always, Anne" Editor's note: I called Janie for the pan size and temp. She still makes her mom's recipe every Christmas but uses 3 c. walnuts and 1 1/2 lbs. dates.
