1/2 c. Crsico
1/2 c. oleo
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. cake flour (or 1 1/2 c. plus 6 T. flour and
1/2 c. plus 2 T. cornstarch)
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk (or 1 c. milk, 1 T. vinegar, let stand
5 minutes)
2 oz. red food coloring
2 T. cocoa
1 T. vinegar
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Frosting:
5 T. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/2 lb. oleo or 1/2 c. Crisco & 1 stick of oleo
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco, oleo and sugar in large bowl. Add eggs one at a time. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa, add to mixture with vanilla. Add flour and salt, alternately with buttermilk. Combine vinegar and soda, add to mixture. Mix well. Bake in 2 - 9 inch round cake pans for 30 minutes at 350º.

For frosting: cook milk and flour until very thick, no moisture left. Then cool. In medium bowl; combine sugar, oleo and vanilla, cream well. Add cooked mixture. Beat until smooth and fluffy, like whipped cream. Spread on cool cake. Keep refrigerated.
