2-1/2 c. Sifted Flour
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Cloves
1 tsp. Ginger
1/2 c. Shortening or Butter
1/2 c. Sugar
2 Eggs
1 c. Boiling Water
1 c. Molasses

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices into bowl and set aside. Cream shortening or butter with sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Combine hot water and molasses. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with the liquid, a small amount at a time, beating well after each addition until smooth. Bake at 350º in a greased 10" pan for 40-45 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Serve with butter or whipped cream.
