CAKE:
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 cups hot applesauce
2 cups raisins
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup molasses or dark Karo syrup
3 cups flour
2 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp allspice
pinch of salt

ICING:
6 Tbsp shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup black coffee
1/8 tsp salt
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix hot applesauce, sugar and butter. Dissolve soda in the molasses. Add to mixture. Sift flour, spices, and salt and add to mixture. Stir in nuts. Mix a little flour into the raisins, and add to the mixture. Bake at 350º for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Combine shortening, brown sugar, coffee and salt and cook over medium heat for 6 minutes. Add to sugar and vanilla and beat well. Spread on cake.
