2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
6 T. cocoa
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening (i.e. Crisco)
2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. milk
1 T. vinegar
1 c. hot very hot water

Directions:

Oven temperature 350 degrees

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. In another bowl mix or sift flour, cocoa and salt. Disolve baking soda and vinegar in the milk. Add the soda mixture to the creamed sugar, shortening and eggs and mix well. Next add the flour mixture, hot water and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Pour into 2 greased and floured 8 inch round pans or a standard 9 x 13 inch sheet pan. Bake for about 35 minutes or until done.
Frost with favorite icing.
