8 oz. Sundrop soft drink
2 sticks of butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 cups of sugar
5 eggs
3 cups of plain flour
1 tsp lemon extract or juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups confectionary sugar
2 oz. Sundrop
2 tbs butter

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter with the vegetable shortening, and then add the sugar. Add the eggs, beating after each one. Add the flour and Sundrop, using an electric beater to mix all the ingredients into a batter. Add the lemon extract or juice and the vanilla extract. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour and 15 minutes.

To make the icing, mix all the ingredients together over medium heat. Spread the mixture over the cake.

Make sure to leave the oven door closed for the full hour and 15 minutes. Walk SOFTLY on the kitchen floor.

This is obviously not OUR family's recipe. But I'm adding it in my capacity as a fan. Dale Earnhardt, Sr's quote about this cake: "If you put a piece on top your head your tongue will beat your brains out trying to get to it."
