1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. sliced berries
1 (6oz.) pkg. strawberry gelatin
2 3/4 c. flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 egg whites, beaten

1 box confectioners sugar
2 T. butter
1/2 c. fresh strawberries, chopped

Cream butter and shortening. Slowly add sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Add strawberries and gelatin; beat well. Combine dry ingredients. Add to cream mixture slowly with milk and vanilla. Fold in egg whites. Makes 3 layers. Bake at 350.
Let cool.
Mix icing ingredients well and spread on cake.
