1/2 c. shortening,
1 1/2 c. sugar,
2 eggs,
1 oz. red food coloring,
1 Tbl. vinegar,
2 c. flour,
1 tsp salt,
1 c. buttermilk,
1 Tbl. vanilla,
2 tsp. cocoa.

Directions:
Directions:
Mix red food coloring with cocoa and set aside. Add 1 tsp. soda to 1 Tbl. vinegar and set aside. Cream shortening & sugar. Add eggs. Add the dry ingredients with the buttermilk and vanilla. Add coloring mix and soda & vinegar.

Pour into 2 round 9" pans that have been greased and floured. Bake at 350º for 20 minutes. Cool completely before icing.

Frosting:
1/2 c. butter,
1 8 oz. Philadelphia cream cheese,
1 lb. powdered sugar,
1 Tbl. vanilla,
1/8 tsp. salt,
1/2 c. chopped pecans.
