3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp ginger
2 tsp soda (scant)
1/2 tsp salt
sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Cream shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Add dry ingredients. Mix until dough is soft and can be formed into balls. Roll balls in granulated sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes.

These are my favorite cookies. Kept in an airtight container, they last for quite a while, still tasting fresh and spicy. I always give them out for Christmas and invariably get requests for the recipe. Enjoy!
