1 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg - beaten
3 or 4 apples - chopped
1 scant tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Sauce:
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. cream
pinch of baking soda
Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add the egg and chopped apples. Then add remaining ingredients.

For the sauce:
Stir while boiling for about 5 minutes. Add the salt last, after cooking. Serve sauce warm.
