WET- 2 c water to cook 1 lb. raisins, 1/2 cup or 4 oz. lard, then 1 cup COLD water. 1 tbsp. vanilla. DRY-2 c sugar, 1tsp cinnimon,1 tsp. nutmeg, 1 tsp.clove, 1 tsp. salt, 1 LEVEL tbsp. baking soda 4 c flour. Nuts optional

Mix all dry ingredients together in large bowl. Cook raisins in 2 c water for 15 min. During last 3 min. add lard till melted. take off heat & add 1 cup COLD water. Mix wet & dry together. Bake in greased 13x9 " glass baking dish for 45 min. ONLY @ 375º. Cool. Can be served warm or cold. Cover with foil for storage. Will make it's own glaze on top, no icing needed.
