French Onion Soup Recipe

4 large Vidalia onions, chopped coarsely
3 tbsp each butter and olive oil
4 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 c dry red zinfandel
1 c white wine
6 c beef broth
salt and pepper to taste

Gruyere cheese, grated

French Bread, sliced thick and toasted

Directions:
Directions:
• Into a pot, melt butter and olive oil. Add onions and cook until golden brown and caramelized
(25 minutes).
• Add garlic and sauté 1-2 minutes
• Add wine and broth. Simmer 30 minutes.
• Add salt and pepper to taste.

• Preheat oven to 400 degrees
• Put soup into crocks, add toasted French bread, cover
with cheese and bake until cheese is melted and bubbly.
• Serve
