***Buy fresh mace and cardamom every year as it will go stale.

- 2 ¼ Cup Milk
- 1 Cup Lard
- 1+ Cup Sugar
- 3 teaspoon salt
- 1 15 oz. box White Seedless Raisins
- 1 10 oz. pkg. Shelled English Walnuts
- 8 ½ to 9 Cup flour (Don’t sift!)
- 3 teaspoon Mace
- 2 eggs
- 3 pkg. Yeast (7 ½ teaspoon)
- 1 Cup lukewarm Water
- Butter

Heat Milk and add Lard. Add Sugar. Add Salt. Blend together. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve Yeast in Water for 10 minutes. Mix the Nuts and Raisins together and divide into 3 parts. Mix the Mace with the Flour. Add only 3 CUPS of the Flour/Mace mixture to Milk mixture. Beat in Eggs. Mix in yeast. Gradually add REMAINING Flour/Yeast mixture. Mix and knead smooth. Let rise until double in bulk. Divide dough into 3 parts. Roll out 1 part and divide into 3 strips about 4x12 inches. Take 1 part of the Nut/Raisin mixture and spread it evenly onto the 3 strips. Press in place. Roll each strip tightly closed with edges sealed. No nuts or raisins should be showing. Braid 3 strips tightly and put in large, well greased loaf pan. Repeat with other 2 parts of dough. Let rise until double in bulk. Grease tops with melted butter. Bake at 350 alt-0186 for 1 hour. Put foil over tops for last 20 minutes. Brush tops with butter.
