2 egg whites
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar in mixing bowl. Beat until foamy. Add sugar, 2 tbsp at a time, beating after each addition. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. Fold in nuts (optional) and vanilla. Spoon into lightly greased 8 inch pie pan; make a nest like shell, building sides up 1/2 inch above the edge of the pan. Bake in slow oven (250º-300º) for 2 hours or until dry to the touch. Cool to room temperature.
