1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 oz. red food coloring
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1teaspoon soda
1 tablespoon vinegar

Directions:

Cream butter, beat in sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beat well after each egg. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring, add. Add sifted salt, flour, and vanilla alternately with buttermilk, beat well. Sprinkle soda over vinegar, pour over batter mix and blend in.
Place in greased and floured round cake pans (2) and bake for 30 minutes at 350º. Baked when toothpick comes out clean
