What were your family finances like when you were growing up? How did that affect you?

The "Depression" hit in 1929 and 1930. We were living in Illinois and Daddy worked in the coal mines. When the mines shut down we had no income. We moved back to Tennessee when I was 4 or 5 years old. My daddy had bought a new 1929 Baby Overland car. It sat in the back yard at Adamsville and rotted. There was no money for tires or gas.
We did not suffer for food. We lived close to my mother's parents and they had plenty vegetables and meat from the farm. Daddy worked at odd jobs to make money. He did carpenter work.
