How far did you have to travel to attend elementary, junior high and high school, and how did you get there?

I started to school at Morton School in McNairy County between Adamsville and Leapwood. It was about a mile from home. I walked with some other children. When the weather was bad my parents paid the teacher so I could ride with him. My first teacher was Miss Jessie Kemp. Then, it was Mr. Eathyl McKenzie. Later I rode the school bus as it went to Leapwood to get High School students. We could not ride the bus without paying till we were in High School.
In the summer of 1938 I started to High School at Adamsville. Then in November '38 we moved to Enville and I rode a bus 15 miles to Henderson, Chester County High School. I graduated there in 1942.
