Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Chocolate bottom:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
3/4 cup water
1tsp. vanilla extract

Cake layer:
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3 unbaked pie crusts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix first 4 ingredients in saucepan. Cook, stirring constantly just until boiling. Lower heat and simmer gently for 2 or 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, mix the eggs, sugar and butter and vanilla together. Beat for 2 or 3 minutes. Mix the flour and baking powder
together in a bowl. Alternately add flour/baking powder mixture with milk/egg mixture and beat well. Divide into 3 fluted, unbaked, pie crusts. Pour chocolate syrup over each. The chocolate mixture will be very runny, but will thicken and "sink" to bottom of the batter as it bakes.
Bake in 350º preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake springs back when pressed gently in center

Personal Notes:
This is a real memory blast from the past. I remember being in awe of this cake as a child. How did that chocolate sink to the bottom? My Mom would only make this for the Holidays. This is a very unusual dessert..."a cake in a pie crust", with thick chocolate sauce on bottom! Great with ice cream or whipped cream.
