3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups Oats, uncooked
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Add combined remaining ingredients; mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350F. for 12 to 15 minutes. (For variety, add chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips, or coconut).

This is the recipe for Oatmeal Cookies that I began baking when I was first married. Quaker Oats has subsequently changed the recipe and I wrote them several years ago and asked for a copy of the Original Oatmeal Cookie Recipe and they sent it to me.
