1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup light molasses
1 well beaten egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
3/4 tsp ginger
3/4 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Pour water over shortening; add sugar, molasses, and egg; beat well. Add dry ingredients & beat until smooth. Bake in greased & floured 8-inch square pan in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 35 minutes. Cool in pan.
