1 pkg. german sweek chocolate, 4 oz.
2 1/2 c. cake flour, sifted
1 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs whites, stiffly beaten
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter or margarine
4 egg yolks
1 c. buttermilk

-----COCONUT PECAN FROSTING-----
1 c. evaporated milk
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. sugar
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 1/3 c. flaked coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla and chocolate.
Sift flour, soda and salt together; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate ixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites.
Pour batter into three cake layer pans (8 or 9 inch), lined on the bottom with wax paper. Bake 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool before frosting the tops only.

FROSTING:
Combine the ilk, sugar egg yolks, butter and vanilla in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes. Add the cocunt and pecans and cook ntil thick enough to spread (beating occasionally). Yield: 2 1/2 cups.
