6 c. Raw Oats
1 Jar (12 oz) Wheat Germ
1/3 c. water
1 1/2 c Brown Sugar
1 c. vegetable oil
1 tbsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 c chopped pecans, sliced almonds, dried fruit, etc... (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Bring brown sugar and water to a boil for one minute, then remove from heat. Add the oil and vanilla to the cooling sugar mixture. In a large bowl, mix oats, wheat germ, salt, and cinnamon. Add the sugar mixture to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly Spread on one or two large baking sheets. Bake at 200º for 1-2 hours, depending on how crunchy you prefer your granola.

This recipe originally came from my college roommate's mother- she used to make it for him and I'd eat it. Substitute applesauce for half of the oil to make it lighter. If adding nuts, put them in before baking; if adding dried fruit, toss it in after baking;
