¾ cup shortening (substitute part butter)

1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Beat together until creamy: ¾ cup shortening (substitute part butter)
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
¼ cup water
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together and add to creamed mixture: 1 cup flour (I add ¼ cup more if using butter)
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. soda

Blend well. Stir in 3 cups quick cooking oats, uncooked.

I also add ¾ cups dried cranberries. These really make the recipe. If you don’t like cranberries, you can make them plain, or add raisins or different flavored chips.
