1 c. raisins
1c. water
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer one cup of water and one cup of raisins over low heat until raisins are plump. Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup, add water if needed to make 1/2 c. liquid.

Cream together shortening, eggs, sugar, vanilla and raisin liquid (1/2c).
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves.
Add the flour mixture into the cream mixture, add 2 cups of oatmeal, raisins and 1/2 c. chopped nuts. Drop on ungreased cookie sheet about 2" apart. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400º or until lightly brown.
