2 C white sugar
2 T butter
1/4 C boiling water
1/2 C milk
Pinch of salt
1 t vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Melt 1/2 C sugar in iron skillet. Stir constantly with wooden spoon for 8 to 10 minutes, or until caramelized.

2. Pour the boiling water into the caramelized sugar and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in the butter, milk, salt and remaining sugar. Boil the mixture until it reaches the soft ball stage. Cool to room temperature. When the mixture has cooled, stir in the vanilla extract (if you put it in before it gets fugly)
3. With an electric mixer, beat until thick and creamy. Spread on cake.
