1 1/3 c boiling water
1 c quick oats

1/2 c shortening
1 c packed brown sugar
1 c white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/3 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 t tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar

1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/4 tsp vanilla
3 tbsp milk
Powdered sugar

In a small bowl, pour boiling water over oats. Mix well, and cool.

In a large bowl, combine butter or margarine, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup white sugar, eggs, flour, baking soda, spices, and salt. Add cooled oatmeal mixture, and stir to combine. Pour batter into pan.

Bake for 35 minutes.

While cake is baking, combine, 1/4 cup brown sugar, melted butter or margarine bring to a boil for two minutes. Add 3 tbsp milk and enough powdered sugar to allow spreading.
