1 c. packed brown sugar,
2 eggs,
3/4 c. shortening,
3/4 c. molasses,
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk,
3 tsp, baking soda,
1/2 tsp. ginger,
1/2 tsp. cloves,
1/2 tsp. nutmeg,
1 tsp. cinnamon,
4 1/2 c. flour or enough to make stiff dough

Directions:

Mix sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Add sour milk alternately with dry ingredients. Chill dough in refrigerator. Roll out medium thin and cut with cookie cutter. Sprinkle with flour and bake in moderate oven ( 350º) or lower.
