TORTE:
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Dash of salt
1 can drained sour cherries (save juice)
1 egg, well beaten
1 teaspoon melted butter

SAUCE:
Juice from cherries
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Pinch salt
1 tablespoon butter
A few drops of almond extract
Dash of red food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat over to 350º. Grease and flour 8 x 8 inch pan.

For torte, combine drained cherries, egg and melted butter. Add dry ingredients. Bake 40 minutes in prepared pan.

For sauce, bring sugar, cornstarch, salt, cherry juice, and butter to a boil. Add almond extract and food coloring.

To serve, cut torte into squares, pour sauce over torte and top with whipped cream.
