2 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda dissolved in 2 T hot water
3 cups flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
pinch of salt
2 cups coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and vanilla and then soda mixture. Add 3 cups flour mixed with cream of tartar and salt. Add coconut. Shape into rolls. Chill and then slice and bake at 375 degrees. These are easy to overbake. Watch carefully. Aunt Joyce's note: I use 1/2 white and 1/2 brown sugar and reduce the total amount of
sugar to 1 1/2 cups.

This recipe comes from my sister-in-law, Joyce Hughes, and is from her mother, Percy Reisetter. In addition to chocolate, the Reisetters (or at least some of them) love coconut.
