Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 8-9 inch round loaf country-style bread (like challah) or 1 loaf French bread
1 stick (½ C) unsalted butter
1 C packed brown sugar
2 Tbs corn syrup
5 large eggs
1 ½ C half-and-half
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp Grand Marnier (or extra Vanilla—which is what I use)
¼ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a small heavy saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat, stirring until smooth, and pour into a 13 x 9 x 2 – inch banking dish. Cut bread into 1-inch thick slices, and discard ends. Trim crusts if desired (but not necessary). Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them together so they fit is o.k.

In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, liqueur, and salt until combined well and pour evenly over bread. Cover bread mixture and chill for at least 8 hours, and up to one day (overnight works best).

Preheat oven to 350º, and bring bread to room temperature before baking.

Bake bread mixture, uncovered in the middle of the oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, usually 35 to 40 minutes.

Serve hot French Toast immediately.
