"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Core tomatoes and cut clockwise into thick slices. In shallow bowl, combine cornmeal, pepper, paprika, and flour. Dredge tomato slices in cornmeal mixture and set in single layer on a plate. Reserve remaining coating. Put plate in freezer for 5 minutes to allow mixture from tomatoes to soak up the coating. In heavy skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Remove tomatoes from freezer, dredge in remaining cornmeal mixture. Fry tomatoes, turning once, until browned on both sides, about 3 minutes on each side. Serve hot.
